Gabriela Jessome was born in Merida, Yucatan Mexico on October 1st, 1964 as Gabriela Zumarraga Ortiz, becoming a Canadian Citizen in 2009, marrying Robert Jessome on April 6, 2008.
She graduated as an Artistic Teacher at the early age of 12. She continued her Dance Education in Ballet, Folklore, Polynesian dances, Jazz and Modern Dance graduating in 1983 as an International Folklore Dance teacher. She opened the Dance Studio D’Gabrielle in 1983 and closed it in 1986, when she obtained a scholarship to do her Masters in International Marketing at UCLA, Los Angeles, California. While in Los Angeles, Ca, she was involved in different teaching programs as a volunteer. From September 1994 to June 2003 she worked as a Spanish and English Teacher at the Instituto Moderno Americano School in Merida, Yucatan, Mexico, simultaneously teaching folklore dance classes to children from low income families. In August 2003 she moves to Canada.
In 2004, Mrs. Jessome was invited to be in charge of the Dance Workshop at the Gabriela Mistral Latin American School, in which she is still actively involved. She has done several presentations in different community activities such as Latin Elements in which she has written the scripts of each show since 2010 until the coming one on 2015, International Mother Language Day and at the Heritage Festival. She also has extensive experience in Latin American Culture and is involved in the community promoting culture through dance and arts. She has also taken several teaching and training workshops in Spanish Literature, as well as ESL.
In 2009 Mrs. Jessome founded the Cultural Association Folklorical Ballet Mexico Lindo of Alberta and in August 2011 had it fully registered as a Non-Profit Organization. She has been involved with volunteer work in promoting the Mexican and Latin American culture providing free dance classes to children and adults, which she is currently doing every Friday from 6 to 9:30 pm at St. Luke’s Anglican Church. She also directs and performs with the 2 dance groups from the Ballet Mexico Lindo of Alberta, some of the performances she has directed include mainly to the Greater Edmonton Senior Foundation facilities, in what she calls ‘’bringing a gift of love’’, some of the facilities are Kiwanis, McQueen Place, Beverly place, as well as other retirement homes in the city such as South Terrace Long Term Facility, Rutherford Senior Housing, Millwoods Good Shepherd and Shepherd's Care Kensington Campus. At all of the Senior Housing facilities the ballet Mexico Lindo performs twice a year in each of them.
Mrs. Jessome is also a graduate of the Universidad Autonoma de Yucatan- Facultad de Contaduria y Adminstracion (UADY – FCA) with a degree of CPA. She strongly believes that even though she has been working in the Stone and Construction Industry for the last 25 years, what brings balance and true meaning to her life is education, not only through dancing but through teaching.
Currently, Mrs. Jessome is the co-owner of Renovation SOS and Fabulous Unique Novelties Wholesale and Event Rentals Ltd and an ESL Teacher for the LINC program at One World Center teaching CLB 2 and a ESL Teacher at Sacred Heart School in which she teaches the Foundations Phase, dance Director and Teacher of the Ballet Mexico Lindo of Alberta and Dance Teacher and director of the Dance Workshop at the Gabriela Mistral Latin American School.
